Storm Watch Mode: Prepare Your Battery Storage

If you have battery backup at home, this is a good time to switch it into storm watch mode. Charge the battery to 100% and raise its reserve/backup threshold to the maximum so stored energy stays put instead of exporting to the grid. Prioritize backup power for essential circuits — refrigerator, medical equipment, sump pump, and your internet/router. Pause any time-of-use or export/arbitrage discharge schedules so the battery holds its charge through the event. Most systems (Tesla Powerwall, Enphase, Generac PWRcell, and similar) have a one-tap Storm Watch or Storm Guard mode in their app — enable it now rather than after the power goes out. Also charge phones, flashlights, and any portable power stations, and confirm a backup generator has fuel if you have one. Once the alert clears, switch the battery back to its normal automated mode. Not sure how to enable Storm Watch mode on your system? Riverbend can walk you through it.
